These are the kinds of help SeniorLeaf groups under this heading. The names overlap in everyday speech and the differences change what you are buying, so each one says plainly what it covers.

  • Independent Living

Independent living (IL) communities are for adults, generally ages 65 and older, who may not need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) but want a living environment offering additional support, onsite amenities, and socializing opportunities. Many IL communities offer congregate group meals but also have a kitchenette in each living area. As this is the resident's home, outside services such as Non-Medical Home Care, Home Health Care, and Hospice Care can serve these communities.

  • Assisted Living

Assisted living is for people who need help with daily care, but not as much help as a nursing home provides. Facilities range in size from as few as 25 residents to 100 or more, and typically offer a few levels of care, with residents paying more for extra services. They provide help with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing or showering, dressing, taking medicine, getting in and out of bed or a chair, walking, using the toilet, getting to appointments, and eating.

  • Memory Care Assisted Living

Housing for seniors who are at risk of wandering or have Alzheimer's and/or related dementias. Staff help residents with all activities of daily living (ADLs). These secure, lock-down communities take special care to meet the needs of their residents, keeping them engaged and safe.

  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)

Skilled nursing care refers to a patient's need for care or treatment performed by licensed nurses. Nursing homes have a more clinical environment, and residents typically live in a private or semi-private room without a separate living room or kitchen. There is constant access to doctors and nurses. SNFs provide rehabilitation (physical, occupational, speech) therapy for individuals recovering from an injury or hospital stay, and some provide long-term services for months or years.

  • Senior Placement (Relocation)

Professionals who meet with seniors and/or their loved ones and help them find and match with an independent living, assisted living, or memory care community.

  • Real Estate

Real estate agents who work with seniors to help them sell their homes in order to pay for housing and care services that better meet their needs. These transactions usually involve owners, children, individuals with Power of Attorney, reverse mortgages, and downsizing.

  • Senior Transitions Specialists

Professionals who assist older adults with all their personal items in moving, packing, downsizing, and liquidating as they transition to a new place to live.

  • Stay-at-Home w/ Modifications

To help the senior stay in their home, these professionals may do small projects, repairs, and maintenance, install chairlifts, ramps, and grab bars, or perform major remodeling.
